β€œIn 100 years, I hope the Bush School family and historians can look back and say that from our school came generations of people who were committed to public service for the right reasons.”

George H.W. Bush will be laid to rest on Thursday, December 6, 2018 on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center at Texas A&M University, where for more than two decades he continued to encourage, inspire and support the noble idea of public service with integrity.

It was during a series of speaking engagements as a congressman in the 1960s and later during his vice presidency that George Bush developed a deep appreciation for the traditions and values of Aggieland. He admired the prevailing spirit of service that permeates not only the Corps of Cadets, but the broader student body.

In 1991, the 41st President of the United States officially selected Texas A&M University to house the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center and the Bush School of Government and Public Service. After the key elements of the Bush complex were completed in 1997, both he and Mrs. Bush became regular fixtures in College Station hosting a wide range of dignitaries and special events – and attending Bush School classes and Aggie sporting events.

Former President Bush’s legacy lives on not just through the efforts of Bush School students and faculty, but also at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Center where permanent and temporary exhibits showcase the 41st president’s lifetime commitment to public service. More than 40 million pages of records are housed there, along with 2 million photographs, 10,000 video recordings, 92,070-plus artifacts, 1,533 gifts from foreign heads-of-state and more than 2,100 hours of audio. The George H.W. Bush Library Foundation, the third component on the 90-acre complex, supports efforts to preserve President Bush’s legacy and belief that public service is a noble calling.
